Project Description

The Serra–Solé longitudinal study includes 10 children. Five are monolingual Catalan, four are bilingual Catalan-Spanish, and one is monolingual Spanish. The Spanish-speaking child (#10) is included in the Spanish directory. The Catalan monolinguals are in the Catalan directory. The children were videotaped monthly from 1 to 4 years of age, from 1986 to 1989. They were videotaped at their homes in spontaneous interaction with a familiar adult, usually the mother, in sessions of 30 to 45 minutes. All the children belong to middle-class families. The research project is entitled “Language acquisition in Catalan and Spanish children” and is directed by Miquel Serra (Universitat de Barcelona) and Rosa Solé (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona).
