Project Description

This study included 72 targeted children with 36 5-year-olds (middle) and 35 6-year-olds. Children’s SES was divided into high SES(43) group and low SES group(29). However, the data on SES is no longer available. All the children came from Shanghai. 49 were local children, and 23 had just moved in to Shanghai. Children from all the families used Mandarin Chinese (Putonghua) or their own dialects during the dinner talk. The average time of dinner conversation was 18.5 minutes. There were three videotapes for each child in order to get the best one for the sake of research convenience.
