These transcripts are from 22 dyads of first-grade children at indoor play. They were recorded by Mary Ann Evans in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The transcripts were prepared from 10 minutes of interaction in about the middle of each play session as specified on the transcripts. The children in the dyads do not represent a random sample of children. Rather, each dyad consists of one child described by the teacher as verbally quiet in kindergarten, whereas the other child was described as consistently verbal or became verbal across the kindergarten year. During the interactions, children are often engaging in toy play where they produce utterances for toys that they are manipulating. In these cases, the files show these role-playing utterances as quoted sentences, preceded by the +" code.
To facilitate running CLAN programs like KidEVAL on each of the children in the dyads separately, there are two separate called CH1 and CH2. The transcripts in these folders are identical, except for the designation of which child is CHI. Within each dyad one of the children appears as CHI in the CH1 folder and the other appears as CHI in the CH2 folder.
